Materials & innovation
We prioritise the use of natural, renewable and certified organic materials when designing our collections.
Plant and animal fibres make up the majority of our collections. These include plant-based fibres such as organic cotton and linen, as well as animal-derived fibres such as wool, alpaca and yak hair. By sourcing natural materials, we are able to develop products that have long-lasting quality, can be biodegradable, and are a renewable resource. Some challenges of sourcing natural fibres include a negative impact on animal welfare, soil health, water and biodiversity if production processes aren’t executed properly. We do our best to ensure every fibre is responsibly sourced.
We care about people. Paying premium prices for organic material keeps farmers and their families safe and facilitates crop rotation, as well as protecting against child labour and the health dangers associated with the exposure to toxic chemicals.
We ensure to use the latest dyeing machines technology that significantly reduce water consumption.
Our swing tags are made from recycled lavender-seeded paper: plant and watch them grow!
We’re also developing an initiative to turn our denim scraps into paper for our labels.
All of our shipping bags are made from recycled material and are reusable for the customer.
MicroModal
MicroModal is a viscose fabric made from renewable wood sources. Similar to cotton and silk, but easier to care for, it has a unique softness and comfort.
The lightweight, breathable fabric also absorbs moisture – perfect to wear close to the skin. We choose to use MicroModal because it’s the latest improvement of the rayon fabric, responsibly created in Europe from the cellulose of beech trees. Like bamboo, beech trees are low-impact sources which are easily regenerated.
Organic Cotton
Conventional cotton often has a high environmental impact, requiring a vasts amounts of water to produce and depleting the soil quality. Our value chain from farm to yarn ensures no harmful chemicals are used in the fields or contaminate water, that water consumption is controlled and workers’ rights are preserved.
Within the categories of natural and manufactured fibres, we are working towards ensuring as many materials as possible are certified, traceable and recycled.
Organic Cotton is a natural fabric, both durable and biodegradable. It’s comfortable, breathable and hypoallergenic. We use Global Organic Textile Standard certified organic cotton – grown with respect to the farmers and their land without the use of pesticides.
Leather
All the leather we source is a byproduct of existing food production. Any leather used in our products is veg-tan, this technique involves using natural vegetable tannings and is more environmentally friendly than regular leather tanning. Any leather used is also made from waste from the meat industry.
The tanning process is essential as it preserves and strengthens the hides as well as making them more supple and pliable for a garment. Leather is highly durable and can withstand wear and tear, contributing to the longevity of clothing items. With proper treatment and wear, leather becomes more supple and comfortable over time, conforming to the shape of the wearer. We use it primarily in accessories such as bags and shoes, and occasionally in ready-to-wear pieces.
